Alan J. Hawkins, Ph.D. - PortraitSince 2000, Dr. Hawkins has focused his scholarship on the effectiveness of relationship education to help individuals and couples form and sustain healthy relationships and strong marriages.

Dr. Hawkins is probably best known for his many meta-analytic studies on the effectiveness of relationship education evaluation studies. He has also published numerous stimulating conceptual articles and chapters on the RE field and how to improve it, including how social policy efforts can support the RE field. In addition, he has published several studies evaluating specific RE programs.

Dr. Hawkins was a visiting scholar with the Administration for Children and Families 2003-2004 working on the federal healthy marriage and responsible fatherhood initiative. He has served since 2004 on the Utah Marriage Commission, including two terms as Chair of that Commission. Since 2010 he has served on the Research Advisory Group of Project Relate Oklahoma. And he also serves on the National Advisory Board of the National Association for Relationship and Marriage Education.
